“Olavina Payana” Review – A Heartfelt Tale of Love, Loss, and Life’s Second Chances

Olavina Payana, the directorial debut of Kishan Balnad, brings forward an emotional narrative centered on love, grief, and the question of how we move on from deep personal loss. With television actor Sunil Kumar transitioning to the silver screen, the film has all the ingredients for a moving love drama. Yet, despite its sincere core, the film occasionally stumbles in its storytelling, making it an uneven but well-intentioned ride.

The film starts off as a familiar but comforting tale. Sunil (played by Sunil Kumar) is a middle-class man who falls for Vainavi (Kushi), the daughter of a wealthy coffee estate owner, Cariappa (Bala Rajawadi). Faced with resistance and ridicule from her father, Sunil is challenged to “become somebody” before he can win Vainavi’s hand.

What begins as a tale of ambition and romance soon shifts gears. After building a successful life in Bengaluru, Sunil marries Vainavi—only for her to die unexpectedly of cardiac arrest. This turning point takes the film in a deeper, more somber direction.
