Oh no, what a disappointment! 😔 “The Exorcist: Believer” had a promising trailer and the idea of an old school-style story with new elements sounded exciting. It’s a shame that the final result didn’t live up to expectations. The script lacked interest from the start, and the scenes of demonic possession didn’t create the tension you were hoping for. The exorcism scenes also fell flat and felt illogical, although there were a couple of good moments. It’s a bit puzzling that the characters from the original film didn’t have a significant role, but it was still nice to see them again. The attempt to explore religion and a common good in the script didn’t bring the innovation you were looking for and felt a bit simplistic. The performances were average, and it’s true that the two possessed girls couldn’t match Linda Blair’s iconic performance from 1973. It sounds like David Gordon Green missed the mark as a director, but at least the cinematography was decent and the soundtrack featuring “Tubular Bells” had some nostalgic value, even with a few changes. The makeup effects did manage to create a gloomy atmosphere though. Overall, it’s unfortunate that the positive points were few and the negatives outweighed them. It’s indeed a soulless sequel. 🎥👻
